What is TPACK?!?!

Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge or better known as TPACK is key to integrating technology into the classroom. There are seven key components of TPACK that help teachers gain the knowledge they need to use technology in their classrooms. 

These seven components include:

• Content Knowledge- "Gives teacher's knowledge about the subject matter to be learned or taught." (What to Teach) 

• Pedagogical Knowledge- "Gives teacher's deep knowledge about the process and practice or methods of teaching and learning." (How to Teach)

• Technology Knowledge- "Knowledge about certain ways of thinking about, and working with technology, tools and resources."

• Pedagogical Content Knowledge- "Consistent with and similar to Shulman's idea of knowledge of pedagogy that us applicable to the teaching pf specific content."

• Technological Content Knowledge- "An understanding of the manner in which technology and content influences and constrain one another."

• Technological Pedagogical Knowledge- "An understanding of how teaching and learning can change when particular technologies are used in particular ways."

• Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge- "Underlying truly meaningful and deeply skilled teaching with technology.   

Integrating TPACK into our school systems will not only enhance our teachers ability to teach on different formats but it will also give our students to learn from different platforms and not just your usual overhead, or computer. But the use of smart boards and tablets are becoming of age right now in many of our school systems and the TPACK knowledge will help enhance the use of these technologies.

What I hope to get out of this course?

Considering that this is an introductory course in technology skill development. I hope to gain greater knowledge about computers and the different programs and how they work. I also hope to learn a lot more about the internet as well because at the moment I just know the basics of it all. I want to learn how to build a website from the ground up and I also want to perfect my PowerPoint skills and video making skills.
